Biography

Magne Helland's first contact with the optometric profession was in 1977 when he entered a one year course in dispensing optics at Tinius Olsens School at Kongberg. After this he applied for a two year optometry program at Kongsberg College of Engineering, Department of Optometry where he got his professional diploma in 1980. He then worked in privat practice in Oslo for some years. During his optometric career Helland has also worked as an optometrist at a hospital eye department, as the secretary general and professional adviser of the Norwegian Optometric Association, and also acted as the Head of Department at the school of optometry.
As a professional Magne has followed the evolution of information technology within the profession, and in 2001 he underwent a course in Internet Communication and Cyberdemocracy at the Norwegian School of Management BI in Oslo. He is the founder of Optometriforum, a digital Internet- and e-mail based forum for Norwegian optometrists. He has been a member of the Internet board and a News Editor for the Norwegian Optometric Association from 1999, and is today also responsible for the departmental webpages ... you are visiting now.
